Linda Hull
Writer and Development Editor
About Me
I grew up in Miami, Florida, spending much of my time playing with imaginary friends and making up stories. Once in a while, I’d write some of those stories down. These were distributed among a very select, highly amused few. I went on to have an adventurous career working everywhere from restaurants to car washes to airlines and cruise lines where I got the chance to travel, and theme parks where I got to watch kids see their fantasies come to life. All the while making up stories; sometimes writing them down. I eventually settled in Central Florida and got serious about writing. After graduating with a BA in English/Writing from Rollins College, my work has been seen at Universal Studios, Florida; The Orlando Fringe Festival and is currently seeking sales on Smashwords.com, Barnes and Noble.com, and Amazon.com.

For the last 5 years I've had accounts on Elance, ODesk and now Upwork.com where I do freelance writing and editing. A lot more editing than writing as I get paid for that.

You can hire me here: http://www.upwork.com
I specialize in editing and developing short stories and novellas. I can enhance your manuscript by catching grammar and spelling mistakes, smoothing out awkward sentences and phrasing, fleshing out characters, plugging up plot holes, and making dialogue come alive. I have experience working with short stories, novels and novellas in a variety of genres - action-adventure, young adult fantasy, Christian fiction, science fiction, biographical fiction, erotic romance, and comedy. As a writer, I am also able to collaborate and ghostwrite additions to your work, matching your existing tone and voice.

My usual hourly rate is $25.00, or I can charge by the piece. Each project is different - we can negotiate something fair for both of us.

A manuscript of 50,000 + words will take approximately two to four weeks to complete depending on the complexity of the edit and if a second or third pass is requested. My process is to read through your manuscript making minor changes to grammar, punctuation, spelling as I go along, using MS Word’s review feature. I will also make extensive comments regarding plot, character development, dialogue, and structure. My comments will be very pointed and direct, and often involve humor. I try to keep it light and fun. Remember, you can’t be too thin-skinned in this industry. Try reading the comments on any book on Amazon and you’ll see what I mean.

When my first pass is finished I send it to you for your own comments. Communication is key – this is a collaboration. As always, the story remains your own. Any deep changes I suggest are always up to you.

I request that all projects presented to me be in second draft or later stages. The writers I work with must have a solid functional grasp on American English spelling, grammar, and punctuation. Before beginning a project, I will request a sample page or two. If I feel that I would have to spend too much time correcting grammar, spelling and punctuation rather than developing the story, I will let you know and either request a higher pay rate to include proofreading or decline the project.
I have a B.A. in English, with a minor in Writing from Rollins College in Winter Park, Florida. You can find samples of my work in the portfolio in my profile.
